Fitted to Fly

​As parents and grandparents, we are many things for the children in our lives: Protector. Provider. Nurturer. Advocate. Encourager. Disciplinarian.
 
But have you ever considered yourself a fletcher?
 
A fletcher is an individual who prepares an arrow to be ready for flight, able to fly straight, and equipped to achieve its purpose on target.
 
The wise poet Solomon acknowledged this metaphor in Psalm 127:3–5.
 
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!”

At Wilmington Christian School, for nearly 80 years, we have been partnering as fletchers alongside Christian parents, and we are blessed with quivers of young arrows, each being shaped, sharpened, and strengthened to fly for the Lord. Each student discovering his or her own unique design. Each student being sharpened through an outstanding academic program grounded in biblical truth. Each student mentored by caring teachers, coaches, and other Christian students. Each graduate launched with a mission to impact the culture for Christ through excellence in their vocation and through Christ-honoring relationships.
 
The world can seem a scary place. The news is rarely encouraging. And the culture seems darker with each passing year.
 
But the Word of God stands forever (Isaiah 40:8). And the education provided year after year at WCS continues to shape young arrows into blessings, not just for their parents and grandparents, but for a dark world that needs the light they shine for the Gospel.
