December is here, bringing with it (for many people) the annual mix of excitement and anxiety. The holidays can be a joyous time, a stressful time, or sometimes both. In the chaos and confusion of a fallen world, do the words of the angels declared that first night over the Bethlehem fields still ring true? “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10–11) For our students here at Wilmington Christian School, just as for the world at large, Jesus Christ remains the only hope for mankind. There has never been another source of redemption, and there will never be another foundation for true peace on earth or purposeful meaning to life. The joy that comes from a relationship with our Creator, through His Son, Jesus, has never diminished. Nor will it ever.
And as Christian educators, we derive an extra measure of joy in fulfilling the charge of our mission to educate with eternity in view. Here at WCS, our core value of Biblical Worldview reflects this bedrock of all learning. We believe that to flourish as humans made in the image of God, individuals must perceive and interact with all of His creation through the lens of Scripture. Doing so reflects a commitment to the Lordship of Christ and demonstrates the nature, character, and works of God to the community and to the world. This is why we exist as a school, and this is why parents choose WCS. One WCS parent recently shared with us: “The main reason [we choose WCS], I would say, is the clear Bible-centered worldview WCS shares. All the other great reasons such as academic excellence, great arts and sports programs, beautiful and functional facilities, etc., though extremely important, follow as secondary to the biblical worldview.” Each day, as we educate with excellence and as God’s Truth (the good news of great joy!) is modeled and taught in every subject, every activity, our students are given fresh opportunities to embrace their God-given identity as faithful disciples of Christ, servant leaders, lifelong learners, and creators and cultivators. Thank you for partnering with us in prayer and in so many other ways. We pray that you, too, will experience the joy of the season through Jesus. On behalf of WCS, Merry Christmas!
