​Host Family Opportunities

Wilmington Christian School is accepting applications from families who are looking to open their homes to host an international student. Hosting an international student is a great way to share God’s love with an individual from a different culture, while expanding your own family’s understanding of the world. 

Families provide a room, meals, and transportation to and from school and church and receive a monthly stipend to cover room, board, and local transportation expenses. Families of international students pay for the student's tuition, clothes, travel expenses, and toiletries.

Wilmington Christian School provides plenty of support for both students and their families.  Students meeting regularly for one-on-one meetings with the program director; regular social events are scheduled; and academic tutoring is available. ​Dr. Carol Allston-Stiles is a Wilmington Christian School graduate with a master's degree in teaching English as a second language (TESL) and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction. With a heart for international students, she is the first contact for agencies that have students interested in applying to WCS. Once accepted and enrolled, Dr. Allston-Stiles provides orientation for all international students to help them quickly acclimate to their new environment. She regularly meets with individual students and leads a weekly international student lunch meeting in which important announcements are shared, and special occasions are celebrated. Dr. Allston-Stiles stays abreast of students' overall progress within the school and their host families. She works with the students, families, and the school to find a solution if any concerns or issues arise. Additionally, she provides host families training and preparation in August before the students' arrival. Her goal is for students and families to build relationships and for international students to have positive academic and personal experiences as host families minister to them and show Christ in their homes.
