The first day of school...Exciting? Terrifying? Both? I remember that feeling. Can’t wait to see my friends. But will I like my teachers? Will they like me? Will I make the sports team? Will I make friends? Will I be able to get my locker open? What if I forget my lunch? For the 77th year, the students who are entering the hallways and classrooms of Wilmington Christian School will experience these same mixed emotions. But this generation of students is also facing challenges and fears that are unique to them and to this time in history. And the God who created each of the boys and girls at WCS, the God who formed them (Psalm 139:13-16), who hears them and sees them (Genesis 21:8-21), who knows them (Psalm 139:1-6; John 10: 1-18), and who loves them dearly (John 3:16), also has a unique plan and pathway for them (Philippians 1:6; Jeremiah 29:11). Challenging times provide great opportunities to grow in faith and see God provide. That is our continued prayer for our WCS students and families. Our theme this year at WCS is Courage: Faith Over Fear. This world is full of dangers and distractions, fears and frustrations. But we are not alone! We are challenging our students and faculty to remember God’s command to His people, voiced by Joshua: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 Interesting...God doesn’t recommend courage or suggest courage or say that it might be worth considering courage. He commands it! Remember, Joshua was a military man, a warrior, and a commander himself. And they were about to launch a full-scale, military invasion to reclaim land now held by overwhelmingly stronger and firmly entrenched military forces. They did not have superior numbers, superior weaponry, or superior strategy. But what they did have was the Creator of the Universe with them. God was not simply sending them out alone. God was accompanying them every step of the way! And that is one of the many truths that we get to share with our students every day. The same God who accompanied His people in their battle for the promised land is with us today as we battle the dangers and distractions, fears and frustrations of our modern life. What a joy to remember that at WCS... “We are not blown back and forth by the winds of the current cultural chaos. We are firmly anchored in God's Word, and we aim to raise up students who build their lives on that Truth.” Educating for Eternity, Jonathan Nazigian WCS Headmaster Comments are closed.
